Pitch day: Tuesday, February 23
Every team gives a 2-minute pitch of its proposal at the start of the Week 7 lecture. The pitch is not graded on its own; it is how the class learns what everyone is working on and how peer reviews are assigned. Peer reviews count toward participation and are due Thursday, March 4.
Slides are due at 1:00 PM that day, through the Project pitch slide assignment on Canvas. That assignment carries no points: it exists so that every pitch runs from one file rather than from ten laptops.
What to prepare
One slide, submitted on Canvas by 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 23, so that all pitches run from a single file. Put four things on it:
- The open problem in one sentence, and why it matters.
- The data you will use, and whether you already have access.
- The baseline you will compare against.
- What result would change your mind.
No results are expected. Say what you do not know yet; that is what the reviews are for.
How the session runs
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1:55 | Instructor opens the pitch file, assembled from the slides submitted by 1:00 PM; order is posted on Canvas |
| 1:57-2:17 | Ten pitches, 2 minutes each, no questions between them |
| 2:17-2:27 | Open questions and suggestions from the class |
| 2:27-2:45 | Short mini-lecture on vision-language models: the Week 7 topic, shortened to make room for the pitches |
Hold questions until all pitches are done, so timing does not slip. Anyone who wants a longer conversation can use the discussion board or office hours.
Feedback form (every student fills one in during the session)
For each pitch you are not part of, write one line for each:
- Team:
- Strongest part of the plan:
- The one thing I would change:
- A risk they may not have thought of:
Forms are collected at the end of class and shared with each team, with names removed.
Peer review assignment
After the session the instructor assigns each team one other team's proposal to review in writing, using peer_review_form.md. Reviews are due on Canvas by Thursday, March 4, and are returned to the reviewed team with names removed.
